Port-of-Spain, February 23, 2024: The Ministry of Health (MoH) in collaboration with the Regional Health Authorities (RHAs) spearheaded a quality assurance exercise with the objective of ensuring continuous improvement in the quality of service delivery at the nation’s health facilities.
The workshop was held at the Ministry of Health’s Corporate Headquarters, Queen’s Park East, Port-of-Spain. During the workshop, discussions focused on improving the quality of healthcare for patients and patient satisfaction, benchmarks for increased operational responsiveness and the revision of standards and policies for improved client relations.
The Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, delivered opening remarks, imploring those in attendance to lead with empathy and to honour the principles under the Hippocratic Oath to ensure effective service delivery. The Minister added that the delivery of healthcare should always be patient-centred and therefore, all systems and policies should support a delivery of care that is patient-focused, compassionate, responsive and effective. This approach, the Minister noted, must be led by the first point of contact, including nurses and doctors within the public health sector.
The workshop saw the attendance and participation of the Chief Executive Officers, medical staff, Directors of Health and Quality assurance managers from the RHAs along with executive members of the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry will continue to work towards assuring that standards of excellence are achieved by all stakeholders that promote, protect and improve the health status of the population.
