Bipolar Disorder

Imagine your emotions being on a rollercoaster, with extreme highs and lows that you can’t control. That’s what living with bipolar disorder can feel like. Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that causes someone to experience extreme mood swings, ranging from intense emotional highs, known as mania, to intense lows, known as depression.

Bipolar disorder is not just about being moody. These mood changes are more intense than the usual ups and downs we all feel. They can cause unusual and extreme shifts in energy, activity levels, and concentration, making it hard for people with bipolar disorder to carry out daily tasks.

What can I do if I’m struggling?

If you or someone you know is dealing with bipolar disorder, it’s essential to reach out to trusted adults who can connect you with professional resources.  Remember, you’re not alone, and there are people who care and want to support you. You deserve to receive the help and guidance necessary to manage bipolar disorder.

Tips for Managing Bipolar Disorder

  • Stick to a Routine: Establishing a regular daily routine can help stabilise mood swings and provide a sense of structure and predictability.
  • Learn About Your Triggers: Identify triggers that may worsen your mood swings, such as stress, sleep disturbances, or substance use, and develop strategies to cope with or avoid them.
  • Practice Self-Care: Engage in activities that promote relaxation, stress reduction, and overall well-being, such as exercise, mindfulness, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones.
