Ministry of Health Public Update on Dengue - August 16, 2024

Port of Spain, August 16, 2024: The Ministry of Health provides the following epidemiological update on Dengue cases within the country.

The Ministry confirms there are 825 laboratory confirmed cases of Dengue Fever and eight (8) laboratory confirmed deaths.

Signs and Symptoms of Dengue Fever:

The public is reminded that Dengue Fever may be spread by the bite of an infected Aedes aegypti mosquito.  Symptoms appear within 5-6 days of being bitten, last for 1-2 weeks and can include:

Voluntary Recall of One Lot of Heparin Sodium 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection Due to Potential for Elevated Endotoxin Levels

Port of Spain, August 09, 2024: The Ministry of Health (MoH), via its Chemistry, Food and Drugs Division advises of the voluntary recall of one lot of Heparin Sodium in 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection to the consumer level. The recall was issued by Baxter International Inc. due to the potential for elevated endotoxin levels based on issues related to the bacterial endotoxin test specific to lot number N008235.

Minister of Health Extends Condolences on the Passing of Former Health Minister

Port of Spain, August 5, 2024: The Ministry of Health and the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Emanuel Hosein.

Dr. Hosein served as Minister of Health during the period 1986 to 1991. He will be remembered for his years of service and dedication to country and for championing the cause for persons with disabilities, which earned him the Chaconia medal Gold in 2022.
