Dealing with Behavioural Challenges

Conduct-disorder

During teenage years, we often experience phases where our actions don’t align with our values. These behaviour patterns can be tough, affecting our daily lives, relationships, and overall well-being. They might include frequent arguments, school disruptions, rule-breaking, or risky behaviours—often stemming from underlying emotions or reactions to challenges.

Navigating this can be tough due to the whirlwind of changes and pressures we face during this time. It’s common for teens from all backgrounds to encounter behavioural challenges; it’s not something to be ashamed of. Rather, these challenges signal areas in our lives that need attention and adjustment. They’re opportunities for growth and learning how to navigate life’s complexities.

What can I do if I’m struggling?

If you’re going through a tough time, talking to someone you trust can really help. Whether it’s a parent, teacher, counsellor, or another adult you feel comfortable with, sharing what you’re going through can lighten the load and get you the support you need. Remember, reaching out is a sign of strength, not weakness. You deserve to feel better, and there are people ready to help you through it

How can I help myself?

  • Recognize Your Triggers: Knowing what sets off your behaviour is key to managing it. Keep a journal to track triggers and your reactions. This can help you predict and control your responses better.
  • Find Healthy Outlets: Engage in activities like sports, mindfulness practices, or creative hobbies to handle stress and emotions in a positive way. These can help you feel more in control and less overwhelmed.
  • Reach Out for Support: Talk to trusted adults, like a parent, teacher, or counsellor, or join support groups. Getting guidance and perspective from others can make a big difference in managing your behaviour effectively.
